Black Tourmaline, also known as Schorl, is the most common member of the tourmaline mineral group. Its deep black colour is primarily caused by the presence of iron within the crystal structure, while its distinctive vertical striations form naturally as the crystal grows. Black Tourmaline is found in locations including Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United States. It has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and is naturally pyroelectric, meaning it can develop an electrical charge when heated or subjected to pressure.
