Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope, is a dark green variety of chalcedony distinguished by its characteristic red spots and markings. The green colour is created by inclusions of chlorite and other minerals, while the red spots are caused by iron oxide, commonly hematite. Traditionally sourced from India, Bloodstone is also found in locations including Australia, Brazil, China, and the United States. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, Bloodstone has been valued for thousands of years and was once believed to possess protective qualities by ancient warriors and travellers.
