Chrysoprase is a vibrant green variety of Chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of Quartz. Its distinctive apple-green colour is created by trace amounts of nickel, rather than chromium as seen in many other green gemstones. Significant deposits of Chrysoprase are found in Australia, Brazil, and Tanzania, with Australian material being particularly well regarded. With a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, Chrysoprase is a durable gemstone suitable for jewellery and everyday enjoyment.
