Scientific Properties

Despite its trade name, Dalmatian Jasper is not a true jasper but an igneous rock composed primarily of light-coloured feldspar and quartz, with distinctive black inclusions of minerals such as arfvedsonite or tourmaline. These contrasting spots create the characteristic appearance that resembles the coat of a Dalmatian dog. Most Dalmatian Jasper originates from Chihuahua, Mexico, where the material has been quarried for many years. With a hardness of approximately 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, it is prized for its unique appearance and instantly recognisable patterning.
