Sunstone is a variety of feldspar known for its sparkling appearance, caused by tiny reflective inclusions within the stone. This optical effect, known as aventurescence, creates flashes of light that can range from gold and copper to orange and red. Sunstone is found in locations including India, Norway, Tanzania, and the United States, with Oregon material being particularly prized. With a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, Sunstone has been admired for centuries for its warm glow, which can appear to shimmer as the stone moves through the light.
